Sunny day in Toronto and roads were empty. You failed to stop at red light in Toronto and now you have a red light ticket?
Colloquially this is known as “red light ticket”. Red light cameras serve the purpose of deterring drivers from running red lights and are strategically placed at intersections with high traffic volume or elevated accident rates. If a vehicle crosses the stop line and enters the intersection after the light has transitioned to red, the camera will capture an image of the vehicle and its license plate. Subsequently, an officer will examine the photos to confirm the fail to stop at red-light violation. A ticket will be issued and sent by the Ministry of Transportation to the registered owner of the vehicle that carries a $325 fine and do not have any demerit points.
When issued a ticket for fail to stop at a red light by a Police Officer, it constitutes a distinct offense, accompanied by demerit points. Traffic infraction for fail to stop at a red light is established under Section 144(18) of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. According to the Act, drivers must come to a full and complete stop when approaching a red light at a traffic signal, and they are required to remain stopped until the light transitions to green
Failure to do so comes with a 3-demerit point, a fine of $325. It’s important to dispute this ticket to save your driving record!
